HSDPA, short for High-Speed Downlink Packet Access, is a new protocol for mobile telephone data transmision. It is known as a 3.5G technology. This standard will provide download speed on a mobile device equivalant to ADSL(Asymmetric Digital Subscriber Line) line in a home. HSDPA is an evolution or improvement on W-CDMA (Wideband Code Division Multiple Access), a 3G protocol. HSDPA improves the data tranfer rate by a factor of at least five over W-CDMA. Theoretical data transmission speed of HSDPA is 8 to 10 Mbps. HSDPA provide higher data transfer speeds and capacity with networks based on Universal Mobile Telecommunications System (UMTS).
